It was good, though some of the articles just weren't very interesting. The analysis was a bit over my head at some points and this is one of the most esoteric books I've ever heard about. The theses were good, just not written for the general public so it was all a bit opaque too. Also, the level of familiarity required for each country was another bar to understanding and made the book a lot longer to read.

If the reader already has some strong familiarity with a lot of the culture of Eastern Europe they will be able to get something out of it, but for a beginner looking to learn more about music / society / Eastern Europe, maybe another book would be better.
